AD HOC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT |

The Montebello Condominium Unit Owners Association appointed the Ad Hoc Advisory Committee on Landscape Design and Management in September 2005. Initially charged with the responsibility to recommend how to reduce the use of chemicals on the landscaped areas, the Associations Board of Directors (BOD) expanded the committees responsibility to include management of the wooded areas. To learn about options and experiences in other communities, the committee interviewed Integrated Pest Management experts and communities with similar goals. In July 2006, the Board of Directors hired Natural Resource Design, Inc., to (i) prepare contract specifications for our next landscape maintenance contract, (ii) propose a design for our landscaped areas, and (iii) identify a plan for managing our wooded areas. (The committees Request for Proposals can be found here.) On October 17, NRD delivered their preliminary landscape design and plan for managing our woods. Residents sent comments and questions about the plan, which were forwarded to NRD. NRD considered these comments and, at a second town meeting held on December 7, presented their final landscape design and woods management plan. Residents strongly supported the proposal in its entirety. Top priorities were for changes to the Front Entrance and the Village Green. Residents were almost equally divided on the priority for changes to Mt. Eagle Drive and felt we could take a little longer to implement Community Center Shrub Hill.
